UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo has revealed his next opponent inside the octagon, the new number one contender is the undefeated, Chad Mendes, who will face the champion sometime in 2012. The champ revealed the news during an event at Refinaria de Manguinhos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Andre Pederneiras, his coach at Nova Uniao team, also confirmed the news to Tatame Magazine.
Aldo is riding a thirthteen-fight winning streak, eight of those wins coming inside the WEC cage, where he reigned as featherweight champion before moving to the UFC where he holds very notable wins over Mark Hominick at UFC 129 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and most recently defeating former two-time lightweight title contender, Kenny Florian in Houston, Texas.
Mendes is riding a eleven-fight winning streak and has never been defeated in his profession mixed martial arts career, during this time he held three wins inside the WEC cage over Erik Koch, Anthony Morrison, and Cub Swanson. After making his switch to the UFC “Money” defeated Michihiro Omigawaw at UFC 126 in February and Rani Yahya at UFC 133 in August which propelled him back into title contention.
