Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Former number one middleweight contender, Vitor Belfort will meet Japanese superstar, Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 6th, 2011.

Dana White, speaking via ESPN.co.uk, said:

“Verbal agreements are in for a battle between two of the most exciting fighters in the middleweight division. Coming off three straight Fight of the Night performances, Yoshihiro Akiyama will take on former UFC light-heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort in Philadelphia.”

Belfort was last seen in action against current UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva losing that fight in the first round via knock out due to a front kick to the face. Prior to that he’d stopped former middleweight champion, Rich Franklin in the very first round himself.

Akiyama will be looking for a win after losing two straight inside the octagon to Chris Leben and Michael Bisping. His sole win on American soil came via split decision over Alan Belcher at UFC 100 in July of 2009.
