Jorge Santiago released by Sengoku, possible move to Strikeforce in coming months

Sengoku’s middleweight champion, Jorge Santiago has reportedly been released from his contract with the Japanese based MMA promotion earlier this week, which now leaves the door open fir a U.S. return.

Sources close to the promotion revealed the news earlier today, although the fighters manager, Malki Kawa, refused to comment on the story. This will of course leave the door open for a return to Strikeforce who are said to be eyeing the champ.

Santiago captured the gold when he defeated Kazuo Misaki via submission back in January of 2009 before defending it in a rematch against the Japanese fighter in what was one of the best fights of last year.
