UFC gets conditional approval for June show in Vancouver, Canada

Finally some good news about the UFC 115 Vancouver, Canada event. It appears that the Vancouver Athletic Commission has given the promotion conditional approval for the June event at the 19,000-seat GM Place, that marks the UFC’s first event in B.C.

Commission chairman Mirko Mladenovic said the approval and conditions revolve around “insurance and indemnity issues with the city” being resolved. Those issues are expected to be addressed at a city council meeting April 6th, 2010.

The commission also tentatively approved a promoter’s licence for UFC.

Marc Ratner, the UFC’s vice-president of government and regulatory affairs, had this to say on the news:

“We’re anxious and bullish and I am positive we’ll have a sold-out show at GM Place on June 12.”

Council voted 4-3 in favour of a pilot program to regulate mixed martial arts in December.

Officials primarily were concerned the city could be sued in the event of a mishap during an MMA event and directed the commission to oversee future events.
