Shogun Rua: “The champion doesn’t start scoring x2”

UFC light heavyweight number one contender, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has reminded everyone, especially the judges that just because Lyoto Machida is the champion that doesn’t mean you score him extra points.

Rua, speaking via Jornal do Brasil, said:

“It’s not the case, the champion doesn’t start scoring x2. Nobody said that. The person has to fight and win. An example is the fight between Forrest Griffin and Quinton Jackson that Forrest won. Being the champion or not doesn’t matter.

“I was efficient and managed to annul his game but I will come different this time. I’m training to perform well standing and on the floor, impose my pace and strategy and do better in all situations. That was the toughest fight of my life and today I feel more prepared and confident.”

“I focused the technical part of the camp studying what I will do. Nobody knows what is going to happen, so I train everything from Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu so as to not get surprised.”
