Shane Carwin vs. Roy “Big Country” Nelson at UFC 125 in Las Vegas, Nevada

Former UFC heavyweight title contender Shane Carwin is rumoured to face TUF 10 winner, Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson at UFC 125, expected to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 1st, 2011. This depends on whether ‘Big Country’ will be fully recovered from knee surgery he underwent immediately after his title-eliminator match against Junior Dos Santos at UFC 117.

Carwin faced Brock Lesnar for the Undisputed Heavyweight title at UFC 116. Early in the first round, Carwin knocked Lesnar down and had Lesnar in serious danger with his ground and pound. Referee Josh Rosenthal was quoted in a post fight interview stating he was very close to ending the bout. Lesnar was allowed to continue and became Carwin’s first opponent to make it past the first round. In the second round, Lesnar took Carwin down and submitted him via arm triangle choke.

Nelson faced Junior dos Santos at UFC 117 in a bout to determine the #1 contender, losing by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27), but was able to withstand the varied attacks of dos Santos, becoming the first man to take dos Santos to a decision.
