Jose Aldo defend’s “UFC” featherweight title at UFC 125 on January 1st

Current WEC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo will defend the newly created UFC featherweight title when he makes his octagon debut at UFC 125 in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 1st, 2010, with his opponent to be announced.

Dana White, speaking in a media teleconference call held earlier today, said:

“We’re going to be adding two new championship divisions: the bantamweight at 135lbs and the featherweight at 145lbs. The two new divisions feature Jose Aldo, who will now automatically be recognised as the UFC featherweight champion, and WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.”

“[He] is actually fighting December 16th [against Scott Jorgensen] and should he win that fight then he will be recognised as the UFC bantamweight champion. We’re also announcing a new deal with Versus, we’re going to be doing four fights in 2011.”
