James Toney’s UFC 118 purse of $500,000 withheld by the IRS

It has been revealed that the UFC 118 $500,000 purse of heavyweight boxing champion, James Toney, was withheld by the IRS just 24 hours before his fight with Randy Couture after the government called foul on a number of past tax returns.

Toney’s manager and trainer, John Arthur, speaking via MMAJunkie.com, said:

“I could see his face change from one extreme to the other extreme.”

Arthur was shocked that the UFC didn’t notify him of the situation:

“If this would have been (boxing promoter) Dan Goossen, I would have known about it the minute he got it. I’ve been with Dan with many years, so I can’t compare him with the UFC.”
