Former Strikeforce middleweight champion, Jake Shields has confirmed that he’s finally signed a multi-fight contract with the UFC after weeks of negotiating.

Shields will indeed be dropping down to his more natural fighting weight of 170 pounds and will take on Danish star, Martin Kampmann in his Octagon debut at at UFC 121 in Anaheim, California on October 23rd, 2010.

Shields is coming off the most impressive win of his career an impressive five round decision win over MMA legend, Dan Henderson. He also holds notable wins over the likes of Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Paul Daley and Carlos Condit.

As for Kampmann, he is finally back on track in the welterweight division after getting knocked out by Paul Daley in September last year and has since had impressive wins over the likes of Jacob Volkmann and most recently, Paulo Thiago.

Kampmann talks about facing Shields last month:

“That would definitely be a good fight as well. He’s tough and he’s ranked real high in the welterweight division. For good reason, I didn’t expect him to beat (Dan) Henderson, he’s definitely good. I’m ready for whoever. I just want to fight guys that’s ranked in the top ten, top five. The higher the better.”
