Fedor Emelianenko’s new 4-6 fight deal with Strikeforce is 2/3’s complete

Formerly ranked number one heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko has hinted he might be about to sign a significant contract extension with Strikeforce after claiming he has no interest in signing with the UFC, adding “As far and I’m concerned we should discuss the possibility of signing another contract for 4-6 fights.” M-1 Global chief, Evgeni Kogan added that the deal is “two thirds” complete and that the new deal could be announced in five weeks time.

Fedor, speaking this week, said:

“For now M-1 Global works with Strikeforce and we are concentrating on that, the contract is not over yet. So for now we don’t have any interest in the UFC.”

“So far I feel very comfortable fighting, very good with my fighting, and I’m planning of fighting as long as I can physically. As far and I’m concerned we should discuss the possibility of signing another contract for 4-6 fights.”

Kogan, speaking via MMAFighting.com, said:

“I think the talks are going well. There are always things to get sorted and ironed out but we are probably two-thirds of the way there. I think that the next fight and the deal overall will be announced at the same time within the next month. We have an [M-1 Selection] event in [Atlantic City,] New Jersey on September 18, and we may be ready to announce by then, hopefully.”

“He’s being treated well, and we now have a good working relationship with them, which means he’s getting regular fights and M-1, the organization he’s a shareholder in, is also being treated well, and we are achieving some of our goals and working towards achieving others within this relationship.”

“Yes, it definitely is. If we can organize the path forward with our partners in time, I believe we will see Fedor fighting before the year is out. I don’t want to name names of possible opponents, but this match should be one that pleases the fans. He’s looking forward to fighting. We’re trying to make it happen as quickly as possible. Hopefully he’s in the cage before 2011.”
