Duane “Bang” Ludwig out for six months with fibula fracture

MMAWeekly.com first reported that UFC lightweight Duane “Bang” Ludwig (19-11 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will be out of commission for up to six months beacuase of a severe ankle fracture he suffered at UFC on Versus vs. Darren Elkins.

The injury occurred in the very first round as Elkins took Ludwig down. Replays showed Ludwig’s leg bend grotesquely under him.

Ludwig’s manager, Sven Bean said that Ludwig suffered a Maisonneuve fracture – a “spiral” fracture of the fibula bone often accompanied by a severe ankle sprain – to his left leg.

Ludwig will undergo surgery on Friday to repair the damage and will have several pins inserted in the bones to stabilize them.

Dana White, vis the post fight press conference, said:

“I love Duane,” White said. “He’s always been a kid who comes to fight, loves to fight.

“That was a tough break. I don’t know; we’ll see what happens with him. He’s always been a kid who’s on the radar – always hanging out there and always ready and willing to fight.”

Bean said it was an unfortunate accident, but Ludwig would be back.

“It is not career ending,” Bean said. “He’s a tough son of a bitch, so he’s already thinking about what he can do.”
