DREAM.16 aired live from the Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan. Gegard Mousasi defeated Tatsuya Mizuno in the card’s main event to capture the vacant light heavyweight crown. Mousasi quickly disposed of Mizuno by taking his back and sinking in a rear-naked choke just past the midway point of the first. Mousasi took the Dream Middleweight Grand Prix back in September 2008, however vacated the title shortly after to compete at a more suitable 205 pounds

“I feel like Dream is my home. So I’m very glad to accomplish my goals, and that is to win the second belt,” Mousasi stated after his latest conquest.

Jason “Mayhem” Miller battled Kazushi Sakuraba in the night’s co-main event. Mayhem dropped the gauntlet on himself by publicly calling for a submission finish on the legend. It was a feat four different members of the Gracie family, including Royce and Renzo, couldn’t do – yet he accomplished it effortlessly.
