Dana White: Velasquez will wait, Dos Santos will fight

With Saturday nights first-round TKO victory over Frank Mir, Shane Carwin is in line for a title unification fight with current reigning champion, Brock Lesnar.

So where does that leave the other top-ranked heavyweight fighters such as Cain Velazquez and Junior Dos Santos?

UFC president Dana White sums it up pretty good: Velasquez’s victory over former Pride and UFC heavyweight champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, solidifies him as the number one contender to fight the Lesnar-Carwin winner later this year.

“Cain’s waiting in the wings now,” White said. “Cain’s probably going to wait for the next shot. (Junior) Dos Santos will not. Dos Santos will fight again.”

Velasquez is 8-0 with 7 of his wins coming by (T)KO, on his way to the title, Cain has defeated the likes of Jake O’Brien, Cheick Kongo, Ben Rothwell, and most recently Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
