Chael Sonnen consulting legal advisors and physicians, set to appeal drug test

The camp of UFC middleweight contender, Chael Sonnen has released a statement explaining that the former number one contender is currently consulting his legal team and will appeal the California State Athletic Commission’s claim that he tested positive for “abnormally high levels of testosterone”.

The appeal will be heard on December 2nd by the commission. If found guilty Sonnen will be subject to a one-year suspension and a $2,500 fine. That would mean that his schedualed rematch with Anderson Silva, set for January 2011 would be off and would be handed to the winner of the Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami fight in November.

Sonnen’s camp, speaking in a statement released to MMAFighting.com today, said:

“It is our policy not to comment on pending actions by the Athletic Commission. Chael is consulting with his legal advisors and physicians and will have a statement in the near future. Chael will file an appeal with the CSAC and looks forward to working with the Commission to resolve this matter.”
