15-Year-Old Charged in MMA Fighter, Kearn Nedd Shooting Death

The Toronto Sun Reports:

Kearn Nedd, 28, was hailed as a hero after he was gunned down April 16, 2011, at the Rozz Banquet Hall. A 15-year-old boy is facing a murder rap in the killing of an up-and-coming mixed martial arts athlete who tried to stop a robbery at a Brampton banquet hall last spring.

Kearn Nedd, 28, was hailed as a hero after he was gunned down April 16, 2011, at the Rozz Banquet Hall on Advance Blvd., near Dixie Rd. and Steeles Ave. E. He was among 130 people participating in a poker tournament when two masked bandits armed with guns burst in.

Nedd rushed to help the tournament organizer and the good Samaritan was fatally shot in the ensuing struggle.

Seven weeks later, Peel and Hamilton police made a major seizure of guns and drugs. Samir Abdelgadir, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with a slew of gun and drug-related offences. Last week Peel cops revealed one of those guns was the weapon that killed Nedd and they charged Abdelgadir with accessory after the fact to murder. “We’ve now made a second arrest,” Homicide Insp. George Koekkoek said Monday.

The second accused is 15 years old, but at the time of Nedd’s slaying he was only 14, Koekkoek said. The teen can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Koekkoek said the teen was already in custody on another matter when he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. It’s only a matter of time until further arrests are made in the case, the officer said.
